With the increasing use of artificial intelligence tools in coding, serious disagreements have arisen among developers; some have adopted AI tools, while others object to the presence of code generated by large language models in their projects. However, Linus Torvalds, the creator and main maintainer of the Linux kernel, has announced that he strongly supports the use of these tools in the Linux project.
In a detailed post on the Linux kernel mailing list, Torvalds wrote: “Linux is not at all among the anti–AI projects, and if someone has a problem, they can fork the project or simply step aside.” These remarks were made during discussions about the “Cecico” tool, an AI-based system for reviewing Linux kernel code, which, according to its developers, has managed to independently identify more than half of the bugs that are later fixed by humans. However, this tool sometimes causes project managers to waste time with false warnings, with the estimated rate of such errors being around 20 percent.
