The HAWK cryptographic algorithm, which was designed to counter future threats from quantum computers, was removed from the official U.S. standard selection process after the discovery of a serious vulnerability by Anthropic's security model. This algorithm had successfully passed two rounds of NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) tests, but in the third round, which was held to identify potential weaknesses, the Mythos vulnerability led to its removal.
Following the announcement of the research results by Anthropic, the developer of HAWK decided to withdraw this algorithm from the competition for quantum-resistant cryptography standardization.
