While there have been many claims that AI models will soon surpass humans in most tasks and replace a large portion of the workforce, a recent report from Google disproves this idea. According to research by Google Research, data from 15 million anonymous user interactions with the Gemini app, Google’s AI platform, and the API of this system shows that the use of AI in the workplace is still superficial and mostly collaborative, and the complete replacement of white-collar jobs has been limited.
To analyze this data, Google used automatic classification and human verification based on occupational standards and a database of work interactions to determine the actual use of Gemini in professional domains. Preliminary results show that AI is mostly applicable to a limited set of tasks and is often used as a complement and auxiliary tool.
