This week, the San Francisco District Attorney sent an official letter to Apple and Google, requesting that they remove 13 applications known as “nudification” from their app stores. These apps use artificial intelligence to transform ordinary images of people into explicit and unethical photos.
These malicious tools enable the removal of clothing, alteration of individuals’ physical features, placement of them in sexual situations, and even swapping their faces onto other bodies. The San Francisco District Attorney warned that by offering these programs, Apple and Google have violated California state laws prohibiting support services for the creation of deepfake pornography.
