According to reports published by Bloomberg, OpenAI is developing an advanced smart speaker that will likely be released at a price of over $300. Sources close to the project have informed Mark Gurman that the company has even held discussions about pricing the product at $400 to position it as a high-end device in the market.
An interesting aspect of this gadget's design is the use of moving parts to convey a sense of "liveliness" and deeper interaction with the user. OpenAI views this smart speaker as something beyond a conventional voice assistant and is trying to offer it as a replacement for smartphones. Although the company has not yet officially reacted to the news, entering the hardware market could be the next major step for the creator of ChatGPT.
