Taiwanese prosecutors in Keelung have charged nine people, including a senior executive at Nvidia and two Supermicro employees based in the country, who, according to reports, forged documents to conceal illegal exports of advanced AI servers to China.
The accused are charged with “breach of trust” and “document forgery,” and another individual involved in a related case concerning the theft of funds from a distribution company remains at large.
Since 2022, the United States has required licenses for semiconductor exports to China to protect national security and maintain a lead in AI competition. After the arrest of Supermicro founder Wally Liaw in March for transferring about $2.5 billion worth of restricted servers to China, Taiwan launched a separate investigation to uncover the details of the scheme.
The case shows that international pressure on advanced technology exports continues, and major tech firms are under intense scrutiny from export‑control regulations.
