Earlier this year, Meta introduced a program called Project OT (short for Organization Transformation), which aimed to cut up to 60 % of the workforce in certain teams to turn the company into an “AI‑first” organization.
The plan involved two rounds of layoffs, and Meta confirmed that various scenarios for reducing headcount had been examined, but it did not disclose which specific teams would be affected by the program.
The Reuters report notes that organizations face serious challenges in identifying the best AI applications and replacing employees with the technology, especially in determining where AI can be more efficient than human labor.
