Meta enhanced smart glasses privacy by patching a security vulnerability.

Meta has prepared an immediate update to address concerns over the ability to record videos without consent using its AI-equipped smart glasses, following strong public backlash. Previously, these devices only prevented users from recording video after covering the warning LED, but a security loophole allowed individuals to initiate recording first and then cover the light to prevent bystanders from realizing they were being filmed.

Alex Millar, Executive Vice President of Wearables at Meta, announced on Threads that an upcoming update will ensure that if the LED is covered while recording, the camera will automatically stop functioning. This change guarantees that the Capture LED can reliably warn people nearby that a photo or video is being recorded.
