The countdown to the end of Google Assistant has begun. By sending emails to its users, Google has officially confirmed that starting September 4, this legacy voice assistant will be shut down on Android devices to pave the way for the dominance of Gemini AI.
According to initial plans, Assistant was scheduled to retire in late 2025, but Google slightly postponed this timeline to improve Gemini's capabilities. Now, with Gemini fully ready, the process of ending support for Assistant begins, and it may take a few weeks for this change to be rolled out to all users.
With the end of Google's voice assistant on mobile phones, connected gadgets like smartwatches, headphones, and Android Auto systems will also be forced to transition to Gemini. Most of Google's smart home devices had already begun migrating to Gemini prior to this.
