Elmer Sflor, an artist known as "Superelmer" on social media, has welcomed the great popularity of the comic "Balloon in Flight," which has been shared millions of times in meme form on social networks since 2017. However, he believes this fame does not give an AI platform the right to commercially use and sell his work as an advertising template without permission.
According to an official complaint filed earlier this month, Sflor stated that the company Memes Apps LLC, which operates the Memes.ai and Memes AI Studio platforms, has violated copyright laws by selling paid subscriptions and using his comic to create advertisements. With the aim of stopping the illegal and rapid use of his works by this AI tool, he has initiated legal action.
