The United States government has lifted export restrictions on Anthropic's new artificial intelligence models, namely Fable 5 and Mythos 5. This move came about roughly three weeks after the Trump administration had designated these models as a threat to national security.
Anthropic announced in a blog post that the Fable 5 model is now available worldwide, and U.S. organizations have also regained access to the Mythos 5 model as of June 26. The company is also working with the government to expand access to Mythos for more domestic and international partners under the Glasswing program, which allows cybersecurity researchers to access these models for defensive purposes.
Howard Lutnick, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, confirmed in a letter to Anthropic that no further export or domestic transfer licenses will be required for the Claude Mythos and Claude Fable models, and noted that Anthropic has taken the necessary steps to manage the risks associated with these models in close coordination with the government.
